(*I suggest planning to visit before December 5 as any pieces that have sold may already be picked up after this date!)

I have been fascinated by lynx since I was young – I recall finding a large lynx track atop the deep Northern Ontario snow while out snowshoeing with my best friend when I was around 12 or 13 years old.

For this piece, I wanted to honour the lynx alongside the constellation by the same name. Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius named the constellation in the late 17th century, declaring that only the lynx-eyed (those with good eye sight) would be able to see it because it was made up of faint stars.

I really enjoyed experimenting with cyanotype for this piece! Cyanotype is an alternative photographic printing process: when exposed to UV rays, the pigment turns a gorgeous blue, leaving areas that weren’t exposed white. Each print is one-of-a-kind!

I painted my design onto a transparent sheet (acetate) and used that on top of the paper I prepared with cyanotype chemistry to create the print for this piece. The blurry, dreamlike edges that can be achieved with cyanotype printing are one of my favourite aspects of the artform.
