Queer in KW: Art Showcase

A wooden easel displaying a poster for the Central Library Art Gallery. The Queer in KW: Art Showcase exhibition is on display on the gallery walls behind the easel.

I am so excited to share that three of my paintings will be among the 50 works of art displayed at the Queer in KW: art showcase at the Central branch of the Kitchener Public Library! The exhibit features art created by 2SLGBTQIA+ artists residing in or with a connection to Waterloo Region. It opens March 28 and runs until May 8!

Visit the lower level of KPL’s Central Library at 85 Queen St N, Kitchener, ON to check it out!

Ontario Master Naturalist Program

A “flat-lay” style image with a number of items laid out over two blankets. Nikki’s OMNP Certificate of Participation is in the center, with some oak, cedar, and pine leaves on top of the paper’s corners. Around the edges of the blanket, there are two notebooks and a pen, a soft measuring tape, and binoculars. In the top left corner there is white bubble-letter text that reads “Ontario Master Naturalist Program” and there are little white dots drawn over the image.

I graduated from the Ontario Master Naturalist Program (OMNP) this week!! This 8 week program is a collab between Lakehead University and Ontario Nature, and is fully online (with field assignments to get you outside and exploring your “backyard”). I learned SO MUCH and would really recommend the program to anyone that’s interested in learning more about nature.

Here are a few of my favourite things I learned about.
– The development of the Waterloo Moraine
– The significance of the Atherly Narrows and Mnjikaning Fish Weirs
– The rare remnant ecosystem that is the Black Oak Savannah at High Park in Tkaronto/Toronto
– The fact that a type of dragonfly-like insect was the first thing to ever fly (yes, even before dinosaurs)

I’m so excited to continue learning and sharing my knowledge, so I’ve created a virtual community space designed for us to nerd out about nature together. Learn more about In Our Nature.
